ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to assess students’ perception of the relevance of Social Studies as an academic discipline in University of Benin. Social Studies Education raises a generation of individuals, who can think critically for themselves, respect the views and feelings of others and appreciate all those values specified under the nation’s broad national objectives. However, in order to optimally achieve this objective, it is important to recognize students’ perception of the relevance of Social Studies as an academic discipline. The survey research design is adopted to answer the research questions. The stratified sampling technique is used to select a sample size of 100 Social Studies Education students from the population of 176 Social Studies Education students in the University of Benin. 15 items were drawn in the questionnaire which was later analyzed using simple percentage and frequency counts.
