ABSTRACT

This study assessed science teachers' perspective of laboratory work in senior secondary school in Egor LGA,Edo State. Four research questions were raised to guide the study and the study employed random sampling technique method. The population for the study was 208 science teachers in the 20 public secondary schools in Egor LGA of Edo state. The sample size of the study was made up of 52 science teachers constituting 25% of the population.

The design of the study was survey research design. The instrument used for data collection was structured questionnaire, titled “Assessment of Science Teachers' Perspective of Laboratory Work Questionnaire. (ASTPLWQ). The instrument was subjected to face validity by the researcher's supervisor.

 The findings showed that there is a positive perception of science teachers on the effect of laboratory work on student's performance in senior secondary schools in Egor LGA,Edo state.That there is a positive perception of both male and female science teachers on the effect of Laboratory work on students performance in Biology in senior secondary schools in Egor LGA,Edo state and that both male and female science teachers carry out Laboratory works in senior secondary schools in Egor LGA, Edo state.. Based on the findings, it was recommended that, Government should provide physical resources and curriculum development that will enhance the use of Laboratory method and improve the quality of science instruction in our schools. Adequate ventilation,fume hoods,reference materials and Laboratory size must be constructed in such a way to allow all students to participate in real hands- on activities. Secondary schools should ensure the availability of sink,tap,gloves and first aid kits. Adequate laboratory equipment should be provided for senior secondary school students to ease the learning difficulty experienced in learning science subjects.
