ABSTRACT
This study aims to assess the project monitoring practice in public building projects in Edo State. Effective project monitoring is crucial for ensuring the successful completion of construction projects, particularly in the public sector. The research investigates the current state of project monitoring practices, identifies challenges faced, and proposes recommendations for improvement. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and interviews with key stakeholders involved in public building projects in Edo State. The surveys gather quantitative data on project monitoring practices, while the interviews provide qualitative insights into the challenges and experiences of project stakeholders. The findings reveal the current practices and procedures of project monitoring in public building projects. They highlight the importance of effective monitoring in ensuring project success, identifying potential issues and deviations, and facilitating timely decision-making. The study also identifies challenges faced in project monitoring, including inadequate resources, lack of skilled personnel, and limited use of technology. Based on the research findings, recommendations are proposed to enhance project monitoring practices in public building projects. These include the establishment of standardized monitoring frameworks, the adoption of technology-driven monitoring tools, capacity building for project stakeholders, and improved coordination and communication among project participants. The outcomes of this study contribute to a better understanding of project monitoring practices in public building projects in Edo State. The findings can serve as a valuable reference for government agencies, project managers, and other stakeholders involved in public infrastructure development. By implementing the recommended improvements, project stakeholders can enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of project monitoring, leading to improved project outcomes and better utilization of resources.
