ABSTRACT

The study investigated the perceived stress amongst children in education in Benin city. To guide this study, four research questions were raised. The study adopted the descriptive survey design. The population for this study comprised all early childhood pupils in private and public primary schools in Benin City. The sample size for the study was comprised of 50 primary 4 pupils selected through purposive sampling technique from registered primary schools in Benin City. The research instrument used in the study was a structured questionnaire. The findings revealed that children were mostly stressed by the school curriculum, long hours of educational activities and home environment. However, school climate contribute to children stress to a low degree. It was therefore recommended amongst others that Government and school operators should reorganize the school curriculum for the children so as to promote flexible and play based curriculum. Additionally, parents should be supportive to them towards learning through provisions of instructional materials.
