ABSTRACT
Home Economics is a unique filed of study that focuses on the improvement of the welfare of individuals, families and nations striving to solve the most pressing problems of the present as well as the future. This study focused on the assessment of Nigerian tertiary Home Economics Education in the present era. Investigation was on the nature of tertiary Home Economics education, impacts of learning Home Economics on students, causes of low enrolment of students in tertiary Home Economics education and problems associated with the teaching and learning of Home Economics in tertiary institutions in university of Benin, Benin city, Edo state. 4 corresponding research questions and 5 hypothesis were raised to guide the study. The research design was descriptive survey. The data was collected from Home Economics students that were in the school. The population consisted of 107 students that were studying Home Economics during the 2022/2023 academic section. 97 responses were sampled for the study. Structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. Based on the findings from the study, it was recommended that government should respond positively to the funding of Home Economics and provide good facilities and equipment for effective productivity among others.
