ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to assess the use of materials resources for teaching and learning of Adult Literacy Education programme in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, four research questions were raised to guide the study.

The descriptive survey research design was used for this study. The population of this study consists of the adult learner in Benin City. A sample of 267 learners from the population. Questionnaire was the instrument used to elicit information from the respondents.  The data collated were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Validation and reliability of the instrument.

The findings from the study revealed that it was that the overhead projector, video and television, computers, filmstrip, charts/maps, motion pictures, slides and model are all types of materials resources being used in teaching and learning of Adult literacy programme. It was further revealed that overhead projector, video and television, computers, ipad, cartoons and model are available instructional materials in the teaching and learning of Adult literacy programmes. It was seen that lack of adequate knowledge in the subject areas may be responsible for the inability of the Teacher to identify what instructional materials to use. It was recommended that government should provide adequate physical facilities for adult learners’ centre in Egor Local government Area of Edo State. It was further recommended that learning centre should be sited far away from noisy area such as market palace.
