ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to identify institutional factors affecting business education student’s academic performance in Edo State. The research was carried out as a survey research using relevant literature from journals, magazines, books and the internet. Four research questions were raised and analyzed for the purpose of the study. A stratify sample and sampling technique was used in selection of ninety business education students in the faculty of Education, University of Benin. The result revealed that; class size is a factor that affects the academic performance of Business education students as overcrowding leads to less access to equipment and technology, Over populated classroom makes lecture hall rowdy and unconducive for learning and small class size promote positive learning outcome, students can only learn better in a secured and safe environment, which shows that school security is a factor that enhances the academic performance of business education student, to a very high extent, the school hostel is not habitable as the school hostel is always crowded and distract students from concentrating in their academic work and inadequate maintenance of hostel accommodation affect students’ academic performance and constant use of the library has exposed students to more insight about subject contents in business education and Availability of MTN digital library has help students improve on their study habit
Based on the results, it was recommended that more spacious lecture halls should be built to accommodate more students, and existing ones should be maintained, students should be educated on security tips to stay safe on campus and reduce the activities of cultism and social vices as this would help to make the school safe and habitable for everyone, as a matter of urgency, the overpopulation of residents in the school hostel must be addressed and hence forth hostel potters must admit on the numbers of persons a hostel space can accommodate and finally the school/faculty library must be restocked with current and relevant books and materials for students use, both digitally and manually, this would help in increasing their reading culture and study habit
