ABSTRACT
The concentration of Iron (Fe), Lead (Pb) and Manganese (Mn) in beans, White Beans, Brown beans and Oluka beans have been measured while taking safety into consideration. Beans samples were gathered from the study of open market in Benin city and samples were prepared using standard method, analysis was done using atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) model Buck Scientific VGP210 in order to detect the concentration of heavy metals in the bean’s samples. The pattern in the analytical data is Fe 14.00mg/kg,Mn 14.00mg/kg ,Pb 0.01mg/kg,For white beans.Fe 9.00mg/kg,Mn 13.00mg/kg for Brown beans,Fe 12.00mg/kg,Mn 11.00mg/kg for oluka beans. Results obtained showed Pb were present in white beans with value of 0.01mg/kg which is within the E.U standard limit at 0.02mg/kg,while heavy metals detected in the three beans samples, only Mn present in white beans and Brown beans with concentration of 14.00mg/kg and 13.00mg/kg respectively slightly exceeded the permitted standard by European Union (E U) Of 11.00mg/kg ,since it is an essential metal ,makes it fit for consumption .
