ABSTRACT

Corrosion and scale formation in piping systems, both in oil piping systems, industry, and water distribution has been a reoccurring problem, leading to issues such as water loss̕ recued life of facilities, pipe punctures, clogging of pipes, and pressure loss in water distribution systems. The aim of this study is to assess the suitability of groundwater for industrial purposes using the LSI index, in Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. The groundwater samples were collected randomly in fifteen different boreholes (through taps) in some selected industries, comprising of bakeries, laundries, table water factories and restaurants. The physiochemical properties of the collected samples were analyzed. The parameters used to compute the Langelier Saturation Index (LSI) of each sample include; pH, calcium hardness or Ca⁺² concentration, alkalinity or HCO₃ concentration, temperature. The LSI values of the groundwater samples ranged from -3.45 to -4.85 with an average value of -4.4.
