ABSTRACT
Assessment of ground water potential in the university of benin and its environs was carried out using the 2-D electrical resistivity imaging method. We made use of ABEM SAS terrameter to determine Ground water in employing vertical electrical sounding(VES) of the electrical resistivity method. In traverse-1 relatively high resistivity values (1637 Ωm – 7667 Ωm) were observed at surface distance 170-220m, starting from depth 30m. Futhermore, in the same traverse 1 a low resistivity value was observe at surface distance between (190 m and 220 m) at depth below greater than 10m. Also in traverse three a high resistivity zone between distances 120m to the end of the profile was observed. From the results gotten we could see there is a very likely possibility of ground water being present. In conclusion, the research studied area may hold good prospect of ground water potential by virtue of a thick probable aquifer layer.
