ABSTRACT
Fire Safety practices has been a thing of neglect in most public and commercial buildings in Nigeria and this has been a contributing factor to incessant fire incidents.The purpose of this study is to assess fire safety measures in commercial buildings in Benin City, Edo State. Qualitative and quantitative data would be collected via case study and questionnaires survey and administered to the facility users. The study survey is to assess the respondents’ perception of fire safety measures in commercial buildings and suggest possible policy measures that will be employed to enhance safety. This study will also evaluate Electrical faults that are potentially frequent causes of fire occurrence in commercial buildings. It would also give insight to safety rules as specified in building codes that should be upheld and implemented. The significance of this study is to ensure that the design and construction of commercial buildings enhance the safety of users and properties.
