Subsequently, the review of literature was conducted in different subheadings in other to understand what had been done in the past on the study. The descriptive survey research design was adopted, and the questionnaire which was validated and found reliable by experts was used to collect data. The data collected were analysed using mean score analysis and percentage count.
The findings of this study revealed that there are several activities carried out by women towards the development of rural communities. Women have contributed to the economic development of rural communities as they are actively involved in the production, processing and distribution of goods and services. In fact, findings of this study made bare the fact that without women in rural communities, there would be no record of development. Their activities contributes significantly to the socio-economic and political development of rural communities. However, a number of factors including illiteracy and discriminating social laws have hindered and kept their efforts in the shadow. As a result, the researcher recommends that government formulate legislations to allow for equal accessibility to credits, grants and other social aids. Also, there should be proper documentation of all economic activities so as to keep track of women's contribution. In addition, government should make use of programmes like adult education to remedy the illiteracy widespread among women.
