ABSTRACT

This study was designed to assess the factors that influence the performance of women entrepreneurs in Nigeria, precisely female entrepreneurs in University of Benin and it’s environ. Objectively the study explored how factors such as gender discrimination, social and cultural restrictions, lack of access to capital, women family role, and lack of quality education and experience influences the performance of women entrepreneurs in their businesses. The researchers made use of primary sources of data (questionnaires). For the purpose of analyzing the data, the researcher made use of simple percentage and frequency count in computing the findings from the research. The study is of utmost relevance as it tends to fill the gap in literature by assessing the factors that influence the performance of women entrepreneurs in Nigeria. The findings from the study include that to a large extent the identified factors have substantial influence on the performance of women entrepreneurs in Nigeria. The study recommends among others that the government and other formal institutions should put measures in place to bridge the gap of financial accessibility among women entrepreneurs. There is also a need boost personal skills as well as equip women with professional education.
