ABSTRACT
Waste management is the most pressing environmental challenge faced by urban and rural areas in Nigeria hence hundred questionnaires were distributed and analysed using the simple majority with the aim of examining the environmental effect of waste disposal in Benin City and it challenges and control. From the analysis of the questionnaires it was discovered that age, finance and academic level have a direct impact on the method of waste disposal adapted around this communities as most of the area where majority of the students leave make use of open pumping, while others makes use of burning of refuse as the main way of waste disposal. While in most of the area where the working class, M.Sc, Ph.D and Professor leave make us of agencies that come around once in a month and in some area twice in a month to pick up this waste, this also contribute to the hips of waste that were notice in some area as it was attributed to delay in these agencies coming to pick this waste at the appreciate.
