ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to assess assessment of coping strategies and quality of life among cancer patients attending tertiary health facility in Benin City, Edo State. This study was a cross-sectional research design and was conducted among a target population of cancer women across all seven (7) units of the Nursing Department in tertiary institution in Benin City. The proportional sampling technique was used as the sampling technique to sample one hundred and seven (107) cancer patients in tertiary hospital, Benin City. An adapted questionnaire developed by AL-Yaqoubi and Arulappan (2022) was used to get data from the respondents, which was validated by the researcher’s supervisor. Descriptive statistics such as frequency distribution, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the data obtained. Results of the study showed that majority of the respondents have fair quality of life, less than half have poor quality of life while less than one third have good quality of life The study further recommended Regular screening to ensure prompt diagnosis, reduce complication of comorbidities and ensure proper management of patients is advocated. Training and re-training of health workers on adequate management of cancer patients, especially as it pertains to their quality of life is required.
