ABSTRACT
This research project is titled "Assessment Of Classroom Interaction Patterns In English Language In Junior Secondary Schools In Benin Metropolis”. The major aim of this study is to ascertain the various classroom interaction patterns perceived by junior secondary school students in their English language class. Consequently, the review of related literature was done to provide a good basis for the conclusion of this work. Similarly, the descriptive survey research design was employed and to ensure the attainment of the general aim, Four (4) research questions were raised and the questionnaire was tested, validated and adopted as the instrument for data collection. The data collected from the questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Based on the findings, the classroom interaction patterns perceived by the students in junior secondary schools in Benin metropolis are the teacher dominated interaction pattern, the students centered interaction pattern and the group centered interaction pattern. There are also variations in the students perception based on sex, class and school type. The recommendations made are; teachers should be sensitized on the importance and usefulness of various classroom interaction patterns, students classroom participation should be encouraged by teachers, teachers should be sent for I'm service training to enable them acquire more skills and competence, teachers of English should employ group centered interaction pattern that will actually engage learners in active interaction of the material given.
