ABSTRACT
The study focused on the assessment of civic education programmes in prompting democratic values among secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and answered. The descriptive survey research method was adopted for the study. The population for this study was made of all the 5,109 public junior secondary school students in the 12 public junior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample size for the study was made up of 120 students. For data analysis, frequency counts and percentages were used to calculate the research findings. The findings from the study include that civic education programmes plays a crucial role in fostering respect for the rule of law among students in Egor Local Government Area by encouraging adherence to school rules, raising awareness of policy violations, promoting an understanding of lawful society benefits, instilling confidence in reporting misconduct, and reinforcing personal accountability. It was concluded civic education programmes encourage democratic participation among secondary school students in Egor Local Government Area. The study recommended among others that civic education curriculum should be regularly reviewed and updated to include contemporary democratic principles, human rights education, and civic responsibilities to ensure students develop a strong foundation in democratic values.
