ABSTRACT
The study deals on the assessment of child defilement and social work intervention in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four (4) research questions are raised and examined. The sample size for the study is made up of 216 students drawn from JSS1-SS3 in Akure Commercial Secondary Schools in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State. The data collected is analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage. The study reveals that there is high prevalent rate of child defilement among children in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State. It was concluded that some of the factors responsible for child defilement in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State include poverty, cultural norms, weak law enforcement and judicial system, and lack of comprehensive sex education. The study recommends among others that government should develop comprehensive educational programmes targeting parents, caregivers, and communities to increase awareness about child defilement, its signs, consequences, and available interventions. This could include workshops, seminars, and community outreach initiatives.
