ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to assess the quality of groundwater at Edjeba community and it's environs in Warri, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria in order to ascertain the quality of water that is being consumed in the locality using Water Quality Index. The samples were collected and analyzed in the laboratory to determine some physical, chemical using standard methods. The parameters tested for were pH, temperature, turbidity, calcium, Iron. magnesium, COD, Total Coliform count and Total suspended Solids Comparing the results with WHO and NSDWQ standards, shows the whole water samples were turbid, the TSS and COD were not within the prescribed limits, which is not supposed to be so, and thus not fit for drinking. Various chat were shown from the values in figure 4.1 to show the relationships between some parameters tested from the samples and WHO and NSDWQ standards, figure 4.5 for example for Iron, shows that the close of test carried to WHO and NSDWQ standards. The results obtained from Water Quality Index calculation showed that all the water samples were very poor in quality because the study revealed that all the water samples investigated had one or more parameters that make them unsafe for drinking.
