ABSTRACT

Helicobacter pylori is a gram-negative bacterium that colonizes the human stomach and is associated with various gastrointestinal disorders. Understanding the prevalence and assessment of H. pylori infection among university students is crucial as this population represents a unique demographic group with distinct lifestyle factors that may influence infection rates.

A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to assess Helicobacter pylori infection among university students. Relevant studies published in peer-reviewed journals were identified through comprehensive searches of electronic databases. Data on prevalence, sample size, region, and methodology were extracted, and statistical analyses were performed using a random-effects model. In conclusion, This systematic review and meta-analysis highlight a considerable prevalence of H. pylori infection among university students, suggesting that this demographic group may be at risk for associated gastrointestinal disorders. The findings underscore the importance of public health efforts to raise awareness, implement preventive measures, and improve screening strategies among university students, taking into account regional and lifestyle-specific factors that may influence infection rates. Further research is warranted to understand the risk factors better and to design targeted interventions to reduce the burden of H. pylori infection in this population.
