ABSTRACT
This study assessed 21st century skills compliance among English Language Teachers. The study adopted a survey research design. Its sample comprised of one hundred and thirty (130) English Language Teachers in Public secondary schools in Delta North Senatorial District of Delta State. One researcher designed instrument was used: 21st Century Skills (21CS), which assessed the level of 21st century skills compliance among English Language teachers. The internal consistency of the 21CS was calculated using Cronbach Alpha Formula. The following alpha coefficient was realized for the different subsections of the questionnaire; Section B1–English Language Teachers’ 21st Century skills compliance: 907 and section B2–Challenges that affect Teachers’ 21st century skills compliance: 851. The reliability of the instrument was quite high, an indication that the instruments are reliable. Data analysis was done with percentages, mean, standard deviations and Pearson product moment correlation.
The findings revealed that communication skill was widely addressed by the English Language teachers. The other skills were sparingly addressed by the teachers and did not seen to be core practices embraced by teachers. Therefore, it was recommended that challenges that hinder the full compliance of English Language teachers should be addressed by those concerned.
