ABSTRACT
This project aims to investigate the effects of unplanned development on urban land use. The rapid growth of cities has led to unplanned and haphazard development, resulting in various consequences for land use patterns. The objectives are to assess how this type of development impacts the allocation and utilization of urban land. This research will examine the land use changes in Benin city through the use of GIS software, field study and observations. The study will also explore the causes and consequences of unplanned development on the social, economic, and environmental implications, such as unemployment, water and sanitation problems, and informal settlements. By analysing the available data and engaging in case studies, this study will provide a comprehensive understanding of the effects of unplanned development on urban land use.
