Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of experiential learning in adult education and its contribution to skill development among adult learners in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State, Nigeria. The research employs a  quantitative and qualitative survey technique to assess adult learners' experiences and outcomes. The study is grounded in the theoretical frameworks of Kolb, Dewey, Lewin, and Piaget, which collectively emphasize the importance of learning through experience, reflection, and active engagement.

The empirical review highlights the consistent positive impact of experiential learning across various contexts and disciplines, reinforcing its value in adult education. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on experiential learning by providing evidence of its benefits in a specific Nigerian context, offering practical recommendations for educators and policymakers to enhance adult education programs.

Key findings indicate that experiential learning significantly enhances technical skills, problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills among adult learners. Participants reported increased confidence and competence in applying these skills in their personal and professional lives. The study also identifies several factors influencing the effectiveness of experiential learning, including the role of facilitators, the learning environment, and the integration of reflective practices.

The study concludes with suggestions for further research to explore long-term outcomes and the impact of digital experiential learning tools.
