ABSTRACT

Cassytha filiformis (Lauraceae), a widely distributed parasitic plant, contains several aporphine alkaloids and is often used in African folk medicine to treat cancer, African trypanosomiasis, and other diseases. Cassytha filiformis is a plant known for its various ethnomedical purposes in Nigeria. As a result of its anti-inflammatory quality, this study is essential. This study aims to determine the anti-inflammatory efficacy of Cassytha filiformis extracts in a rat model of arthritis induced by formaldehyde. Twenty- four albino rats were randomly distributed into seven groups of four rats each. Formaldehyde was inoculated through the sub-plantar region of the rats for 28 days from the day of immunization. Group 1 (control) was given as it were refined water, group 2 was given as it were 0.1ml of formaldehyde, which actuated joint pain, gather 3 was given 10mg/kg of Diclofenac (managed orally) the standard sedate for the treatment of joint pain and was moreover induced with 0.1ml of formaldehyde, 15 mg/kg, 30 mg/kg, 60mg/kg of C.filiformis extricates with 0.1ml of formaldehyde were given to gather 4,5, and 6 individually. The extract at 60mg/kg has a better effect in healing formalin-induced arthritis than the standard drug (Diclofenac).
