ABSTRACT

Wastes are known or referred to as any substance or material that is discarded because it is no more useful or no longer needed. This can include old electronics, food scraps, packaging and more. When waste is not managed properly, it can have harmful effects on the environment. Architectural interventions for waste management encompass innovative design strategies that prioritize efficient waste reduction, disposal, and recycling within built environments. This research employed case study method using oral interview, observation and secondary source of data. The effects of waste has a significant impact on both urban and rural areas in Ovia North-East and improper waste management leads to olfactory and visual pollution, affecting the aesthetics of the built environment. At the end of this research, various recommendations was made to ensure that proper waste management are in place as a successful waste management design requires a holistic approach involving urban planners, architects, policy makers and the community to create sustainable solutions that addresses the specific challenge in Benin-city.
