ABSTRACT

This project aims to delve deeper into the use of music in two popular Nigerian movies, Living in Bondage: Breaking Free and Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story. The focus is on understanding how music has been employed as a narrative tool, contributing to the storytelling, enhancing the overall cinematic experience of these films and check mating the correspondence of Nollywood movies to the global best practice. To conduct this appraisal, a combination of Content analysis and interview will be employed to identify musical cues, understand their utilization and impact on the narrative and show how the music is effectively used. A comprehensive cue by cue analysis of the musical cue used in the movies will be carried out. This includes examining the composition of the music, the lyrics, and the interaction of the music in the scenes. By closely examining these cues, we can gain insights into how they contribute to the overall narrative and atmosphere of the films. One crucial aspect that 15 will be explored is the role of music in establishing the mood and enhancing the emotional impact of key scenes. Music has a powerful ability to evoke emotions and create a connection between the audience and the characters on-screen. By carefully selecting and utilizing the right music, filmmakers can heighten the impact of important scenes and make them more resonant with the viewers. The findings of this project will contribute to the existing literature on the use of music in Nigerian cinema. By recognizing and evaluating the artistic and narrative contributions of music in Living in Bondage: Breaking Free and Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story, we can gain insights into the importance of music as a cinematic tool in Nigerian movies. Additionally, this project will shed light on the essence of music in Nollywood movies, how Nollywood filmmakers have utilize music to connect with the audience on a deeper level and how much Nollywood filmmaking process conforms to global best practice.
