ABSTRACT

This study Appraises adult education students academic performance towards the development of professional career in the University of Benin. Five (5) research questions were raised to guide the study The sample size for the study is Ninety six (96) respondents which is the 10% of the total population selected through simple random sampling technique were used for the study. The instrument for data collection was the questionnaire which was designed the researcher and validated by experts in the department of Adult and Non-formal Education, Faculty of Education University of Benin. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques such as tables, frequencies counts, and simple percentages. Findings of the study revealed that the level of awareness in the study of Adult Education in the University of Benin is high. It was also revealed that graduates of the programmes can be gainfully employed, acquire the relevant life skills and knowledge that will be useful to my family and society and become an employer of labour. It was recommended that Policy makers at the government level should emphasize the importance of Adult Education and recommend it workers or accept it a condition for worker in the country in various paid employment. It was further recommended that the nomenclature/name of the discipline should be changed and a new name that will be more pleasing and acceptable to the younger participants.
