ABSTRACT

Flooding generally is one of the major natural disaster anywhere around the globe. The effect of flood has led to major losses including human, property, infrastructure and economic losses. Due to climatic conditions, the impact of flood has greatly increased over the years. Remote Sensing is a technique to observe the earth surface or the atmosphere from out of space using satellites (space borne) or from the air using aircrafts which are airborne Remote Sensing integrated with Geographic Information System (GIS) was used to analyzed and monitor flood in the study area, Flood map/Land use/cover map for the study area was generated, also the digital elevation model (DEM) of the study area was obtained from USGS. Rainfall analysis calculation on the study area was carried out, this was done for a duration of 11 years (2010 – 2020) in other to get the annual mean rainfall. The annual rainfall value for 2019 and 2020 as 1940.33mm and 1933.07mm respectively. The mean annual rainfall for a duration of 11 years (2010 – 2020) was calculated to be 1969.4mm. Finally, the study area affected by flooding was calculated to be 123.53km 2 , giving a percentage of approximately 49.6%. Part of the recommended solution to this problem was to establish a warning system within the study area
