ABSTRACT

This study examines the application and benefits of music in teaching nursery school children. In the process of carrying out this research, the following objectives were focused on which are: examining the factors that influence the use of music as a strategy for effective teaching of nursery school children in select schools in Benin city, discussing the benefits attached to the usage of music, exploring how nursery school teachers apply music in classroom situations, identifying various challenges that are encountered in the application of music in teaching nursery school children in Benin City and examining how the use of music in the teaching and learning of nursery school children can be enhanced. In order to carry out the research, quantitative survey method was applied to gather. From the analysed data, it was deduced that children who are taught with music are able to retain what they were taught in their memory. Also, it was gathered that pupils whose teachers applied music in their teaching patterns often perform better in their examinations and tests. The study recommends that professionalism be applied by teachers and relevant stakeholders in teaching and learning of nursery school children.
