ABSTRACT
Zinger officinale and calistermon citrinus volatile oils are herbal plant extracts that are locally used in several treatments, such antidiarrhea , anti-tussives ,for inflammations Zingiber officinale is also used as a spice in cooking.
This study evaluated the antimicrobial property of theses volatile oil to seek its relevance in health care system today as a result of the growing number of antimicrobial resistance.
From the literature review they were found to contain several secondary metabolites such as phenolic compounds , tertrapines , alkaloid which could suggest reasons for their antimicrobial activities in the first instance.
Tests such as antimicrobial susceptibility , minimum inhibitory concentration ,minimum bactericidal concentration and time kill kinetics where carried out
The results obtained showed huge level of antimicrobial activity
