ABSTRACT
Over the years, malaria has been a ravenging disease that has claimed million of life in the world at large and has also being a threatening factor to healthy living today.Several synthetic drugs like Chloroquine has been used over the years to treat malaria patient.Thou chloroquine has been a suppressive factor to the parasetamia, but it could not give the maximum expectancy result.Also,there are side effects associated with chloroquine usage such as mild headache, abdominal cramps, muscle weakness,nausea, vomiting, tinnitus, skin rashes,etc.This short coming associated with the usage of synthetic drugs and evolution of Green Chemistry have triggered the attention of modern scientists to focus on the natural plants treatment of malaria used by our forefathers.One of such plant is Pyrenacantha staudtii.
Antimalaria studies and Proximate Analysis was carried out on Pyrenacantha staudtii using already laid down procedures.Pyrenacantha staudtii extract using methanol has shown a suppressive effect of about 30.02% - 42.43% on the parasetamia.Proximate Analysis of Pyrenacantha staudtii give the value of 9.3% moisture Content, Total Ash Content of about 4.15%, Crude Protein average of 1.92%, Acid Insoluble Ash Value Determination of 18.02%, Water Soluble Ash Value Determination of ±2.8%, Crude Fat of 63.9%.This promising development has lighting the world of drugs development in fight against malaria.And following the laid methods, it was found that Pyrenacantha staudtii is composed of Phenolic compounds which is responsible for the Antioxidants property.
