ABSTRACT
The stem bark and leaves of carica papaya (family: caricaceae ) has long been used as traditional medicine in West Africa and other parts of Africa for the management of psychotic disorders, infertility, anxiety, convulsion, cardiac depression and epilepsy. The study was carried out to evaluate the anti- cataleptic property of the extract of the leaves of carica.papaya in animal models using polar solvent. The oralean lethal dose (LD50) of the extract was estimated and evaluation of the anticataleptic activity of various doses of carica.papaya extract ( 100,200 and 400mg/kg ) was conducted using haloperidol-induced Catalepsy tests.
