ABSTRACT
Pasteurella disease which is also known as ‘Fowl cholera’, is caused by the Pasteurella multocida bacteria which infects poultry. It inhabits as a commensal of the respiratory tract of chickens but causes disease when the chicken is under stress. The global outbreak of Pasteurella disease in chicken is increasing and the mortality rate in a single outbreak sometimes reaches a value of seventy thousand (70,000) birds. In search for preference to anti-microbial agent as treatment in poultry and other livestock nutrition, researcher are focusing attention on exploitation of non-conventional herbal plant and feed resources. This present study evaluated the anti-bacterial activity of scent leaves (Ocimum gratissimum leaves) in broiler experiencing Pasteurella diseases. A total of eighteen (18) day old apparently healthy broilers weighing 45g to 50g were purchased from a reputable hatchery in Oyo State, Nigeria. They were given clean water and feed for the duration of the study.
