ABSTRACT

This study is aimed at investigating the effects of the ethanolic extract of Chromolaena odorata on some selected bacteria species. The fresh leaf of Chromolaena odorata was obtained and identify at Edo state polytechnic usen.. The leaf was air dried at room temperature (25 – 280c) for two (2) weeks and pulverized into fine powder and extracted using ethanol. The extract (ethanolic) was filtered andput in the water bath at 500c for evaporation to dryness. The antibacterial activities of the extract were conducted against some selected bacteria species (Staphylococcus aureus and  Klebsiella Pneumonae) /using Agar well diffusion test method.

However, the results on antibacterial activities of ethanolic extract of chromolaena odorata leave extract shows that the zone of inhibition on the two strains of bacteria is low; (S. aureous = 14,16) and (Klebb = 10,9)

Compared to the control with higher zone of inhibition; (S. aureous = 25,28) and (Klebb = 12, 10) .

And this simply means that the extract has an antibacterial effect on the tested organism.
