ABSTRACT
A crucial component of the body’s defence mechanisms against numerous stimuli, such as pathogens and tissue injury, is inflammation, a complicated biological response. However, chronic inflammation is linked to the aetiology of many diseases. A tropical fruit known as annona muricata, often called soursop or graviola, may have medical benefits, including the reduction of inflammation. This study used albino wister rats as an experimental paradigm to examine Annona muricata’s anti-inflammatory capabilities in caused acute and Sub-acute inflammation. Carrageenan was injected into the paw to cause acute inflammation, while formalin was injected beneath the skin to cause subacute inflammation. The oral administration of an annona muricata extract was used orally at certain doses to one set of albino Wister rats, whereas the control groups received either a vechicle or common anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen. At different time points, paw edema, paw volume, and biochemical indicators such C-reactive protein (CRP) and pro-inflammatory cytokines were assessed. The results showed that the Annona muricata- treated groups had significantly less paw edema and paw volume than the controls groups. Additionally, it was discovered that the rats treated with annona muricata had much reduced levels of CRP and pro-inflammatory cytokines. According these results, Annona muricata had strong anti-inflammatory effects and is capable of successfully reducing albino Wister rat’s acute and sub- acute inflammation. More research is required to clarify the specific mechanism underlying these anti-inflammatory properties and to examine Annona muricata’s potential therapeutic uses in treating inflammatory illness in people in pharmaceutical and healthcare research, this study highlights the importance of natural items like annona muricata as possible sources of anti-inflammatory medicines.
