ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus, a metabolic condition, remains a considerable worldwide health concern. Traditional medicine provides a hopeful opportunity for uncovering new therapeutic substances. This investigation commences by clarifying the biochemical underpinnings of diabetes, with a specific focus on the critical involvement of insulin resistance and the irregular metabolism of glucose. This research work aims to assess the antidiabetic effect of the bi-juice formulation of tiger nut and pineapple on albino wistar rats, The objectives of this study is to review the existing literature, botanical description, and use of tiger nut and pineapple in accessing the anti-diabetic potential of bi- juice formulation of tiger nut and pineapple, investigating the normoglycemic effect of tiger nut and pineapple on normoglycemic albino wistar rat, investigating the anti-diabetic properties of bi juice formulation of tiger nut and pineapple using animal models and evaluating its efficacy, safety on albino wistar rats, The bi- juice formulation was administered at doses of 60mg/kg and 250mg/kg, The animals were grouped into control group, diabetes control, glibenclamide group and streptozotocin induced group. The result of the study shows that the administration of bi- juice formulation of tiger nut and pineapple to streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats was effective in countering hyperglycemia and some other abnormalities. After one month of daily administration, the treatment resulted in a significant decrease in blood glucose levels, renal indices, and lipid profile, returning them to normal levels. The Juice potential anti-diabetic effect was highlighted by this result, which is due to its capacity to protect pancreatic beta cells. The bi- juice formulation should be subjected to clinical trial, which is imperative to unlock its full therapeutic potential, offering hope for a more holistic approach to diabetic care.
