ABSTRACT

Andrographis paniculata which is one of the most well-known medicinal plants, has been used for centuries in Asia, America, and Africa to treat a variety of illnesses. Examples of such conditions include hypertension, diabetes, ulcers, leprosy, bronchitis, skin diseases, flatulence, colic, influenza, dysentery, dyspepsia, and malaria. Andrographis paniculata contains a number of phytochemical components with distinct and intriguing biological characteristics. This study is centered around the effect of ethanol extract of Andrographis paniculata on various biochemical parameters (MDA, Albumin, GPx and Bilirubin (total, conjugated and unconjugated) in Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Diabetes is known to influence the function of the liver as well as serum biomarkers. This study assess the level of Albumin, MDA, Total Bilirubin, Conjugated bilirubin, unconjugated bilirubin and GPx activity in the liver and serum of Streptozotocin-induced rats treated with ethanol extract of Andrographis paniculata. The obtained results shows that there is a connection between diabetes and the effect of Andrographis paniculata ethanol extract treatment on various aspects of the liver function and oxidative stress.
