SUMMARY

There is no denying the fact that corruption is a negative force that harms no nation. It has continued to oppose any deliberate efforts to promote national development. Nigeria isn’t any different. Due to the fact that the monster has continued to function as a cog in the country’s progress and development, our massive underdevelopment has persisted.

Former Major General Muhammadu Buhari was elected with a landslide to power because one of his campaign promises was to “fight against corruption.” Tragically, the organization seemed to have been obscured with political thought in the battle against defilement so that certain individuals inside the passages of force are seen as holy relics who are pretty much untouchables. The EFCC has been accused of being selective by members of opposition parties because it has not been able to effectively wedge an unrelenting war against financial crimes from both the ruling and opposition parties in the country as a result of the preceding disposition by the government in power. However, this study maintains that high-profile figures in the country have not significantly reduced money laundering and grand embezzlement of public funds. This could be because of political considerations or because there aren’t enough investigations, which is why there aren’t many convictions on those fronts.
