Abstract
From the foregoing discussion, Iva valley has served as a striking example that depicts Nigeria's resistance to colonial rule and their stance for independence. This chapter gives an overview of colonial rule in igbo land, the story of the iva valley people, and the massacre and its consequences. The historical overview of British colonial rule in Igbo land unveils a complex narrative marked by profound socio-political transformations, cultural disruptions, and enduring legacies. It was an accumulation of different resistance that was set against colonial rule in the Igbo land. Protests and strikes like the Aba women riot, Ogu umunwanyi, ekumeku revolt, etc. were disruptions that were organized by the Igbo people to fight against different oppressions they faced at different points. The British colonial administration, driven by economic interests and imperial ambitions, imposed its authority despite the odds through a combination of military conquest, administrative reorganization, and cultural assimilation. This hegemonic 83 control over Igbo territory engendered significant changes in governance structures, land tenure systems, and social hierarchies, profoundly altering the fabric of Igbo society.
