ANGLICAN CHURCH DEVELOPMENT IN BENIN CITY.

ABSTRACT

The study is to examine the Anglican Church and development in Benin City. The study uses historical research methods to gather and analyse data for the study. The study used both primary and secondary data. Primary data include intelligent reports and oral interviews. The oral interview conducted with members of the church that have ideas on the topic. The study showed that the Anglican Church has played a significant role in the development of Benin City, an important cultural and historical hub in Nigeria. Over the years, the Church has been actively involved in various initiatives that have contributed to the growth and progress of the city and its inhabitants. One of the fundamental aspects of the Anglican Church's impact on Benin City is its focus on education. Through the establishment of schools and educational institutions, the Church has helped in fostering literacy and knowledge dissemination among the local population. These educational efforts have empowered individuals, provided opportunities for skill development, and contributed to the overall intellectual growth of the community. Moreover, the Anglican Church has been deeply involved in social and humanitarian activities, catering to the needs of the less fortunate. By operating orphanages, healthcare centers, and other charitable endeavors, the Church has made a positive impact on the lives of the underprivileged, offering them hope and support in times of distress. The study recommended that the Anglican Church should continue to embrace and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Benin City. This can be achieved through the integration of local traditions and customs into church activities and events, thereby preserving the city's unique identity while promoting a sense of pride and belonging among the residents.
