ABSTRACT

This study, conducted at the University of Benin, aimed to investigate the factors influencing the academic performance of undergraduate students using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Four key variables were identified as significant contributors to academic performance: lecture understanding, active participation, attentiveness, and UTME scores (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination). The findings revealed that lecture understanding is crucial for academic success, emphasizing the importance of effective teaching methods and student-teacher interactions. Active participation in seminars and workshops was found to enhance academic performance, highlighting the value of extracurricular learning experiences. Student attentiveness emerged as a vital factor, emphasizing the need for conducive learning environments and the promotion of effective study habits. Additionally, UTME scores were identified as a predictor of academic success, underscoring the significance of evaluating admission criteria and providing support to incoming students.
