ABSTRACT
This study examines the effect of population growth on public schools facilities in Oredo Local Government Area. The objectives of the study were to identify the number of public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area; examine the quality of facilities provided in the public schools; determine the student-facility ratio. Questionnaires were administered to a total of 150 respondents across the study area. All the questionnaires were all returned valid for analysis and the data collected was fed into the SPSS version 24. The data was analyzed using the frequency table, pie charts and bar graphs. Multiple Regression analytical technique was used to test the stated hypothesis, it was ascertained from the survey that public schools in the study area have at least 500 students. It was also discovered that the most prominent facilities that aid learning in these schools are chairs and desks. It was also ascertained from the study that the state of the schools’ facilities is poor. The study recommends that the government of the study area should make providence for more facilities in these schools in other to match the population growth. Also recommended that the government of Edo State should ensure the availability of state of the art facilities in their schools to enhance the learning process in these public schools.
