SUMMARY

Technical losses as seen earlier are losses due to energy dissipated in the conductors, equipment used for transmission line, transformer, sub-transmission line and distribution line and magnetic losses in transformers (Electrical India, 2018). Thus, cannot be eliminated easily but can be effectively reduced if the right measures or approach is utilized. Some of which includes: • Replacing worn-out equipment • Practicing constant and routine network maintenance. This will go a very long way in identifying equipment that needs to be replaced. • Right-sizing transformers Transformers operate most efficiently when they are at 80-100% of maximum capacity. Underloaded transformers are inefficient due to core losses. If some transformers are frequently underloaded, it may be possible to strategically shut down certain transformers or install smaller transformers appropriate for the load. As well, if transformers are frequently overloaded, it might be safer and more efficient to install larger transformers, or rebalance the load such that the transformers are under capacity. Thus, a careful analysis is needed to determine when it would make sense financially to upsize, downsize, or shut off a transformer.
