ABSTRACT

This research explores the challenges of public housing delivery in tertiary institutions, focusing on the stat quarters at the University of Benin, The aim of this study is threefold firstly, to determine the current state of public housing delivery within tertiary institutions. Secondly, to examine the challenges that impede effective housing delivery, and thirdly, to determine the impacts of these housing challenges on the well-being of staff members. To achieve the first aim, an in-depth analysis of the existing public housing arrangements at the University of Benin was carried out. This will involve examining the physical conditions, occupancy rates, and availability of amenities in the staff quarters. The research was proceeded to identity the challenges faced in the delivery of public housing within tertiary institutions, including issues related to funding, infrastructure maintenance, and administration. Furthermore, the study aims to investigate the impacts of these housing challenges on the staff members' well-being. Factors such as substandard living conditions, inadequate infrastructure and limited access to basic services are likely to have adverse effects on the morale and job satisfaction of university staff. Such challenges may also compromise the university's ability to attract and retain talented faculty members, thereby hindering its 10 overall academic performance and reputation. To gather relevant data, Questionnaire was distributed to the university administrators, members, and housing officials, with quantitative surveys to capture a broader perspective. The findings of this study contributed to a deeper understanding of the challenges in public housing delivery within tertiary institutions and shed light on the potential impacts on staff members' well-being.
