ABSTRACT

This study investigated the item parameters of 2018, 2019 and 2021 Primary School Certificate Examination (PSCE) mathematics multiple choice test items using Item Response Theory. To guide the study, one research question was raised and answered, and three were hypothesized and tested. Survey research design was adopted. The primary six pupils in all the public primary schools in Edo South Senatorial District formed the population of the study. The sample size compromised of the three hundred and twenty (320) primary six pupils. The local government areas, schools and the pupils were selected using the simple random sampling technique. The instruments used were 2018, 2019 and 2021 PSCE mathematics multiple choice test items. The instruments being standardized by their originality were assumed to be valid while the reliability of the instruments were established by the researcher.
