Abstract
The study investigates the factors influencing the health seeking behaviour of women in Onitsha South Local Government. The study adopted the survey design which allows that researcher to source data from the respondents, using the questionnaires as instrument. The data sourced was analysed using percentage and chi-square statistical techniques. The result revealed that women’s socio-economic status influences their health seeking behaviour in Onitsha South Local Government Area. The result shows revealed that women’s cultural beliefs influence their health seeking behaviour in Onitsha South Local Government Area. The result also revealed that women’s religion influences their health seeking behaviour in Onitsha South Local Government Area. The result shows that women’s education influences their health seeking behaviour among women in Onitsha South Local Government Area. The study recommends that it is necessary to improve the educational status of mothers including health education to reduce ignorance and increase access to health care services through increase awareness and to health educate people on this problem. Socio-demographic predictors of seeking care at government health facilities should be addressed through care support from government health facilities more often. Specifically, rural residents should be encouraged to seek care at private health facilities and government health facilities.
