ABSTRACT
Information transmission is one of the most important factors that ensure the smooth running of
any organization. This is especially correct for large organizations with multiple departments either
within the same building or in different locations around the world; schools, hospitals, banks, and
so on. The use of manual methods to store and transmit information within these organizations is
mostly slow, tedious and unreliable.
This project hence educates on the advantages of adapting a modern approach to the movement of
information between entities in an organization. To do this, a digital network is developed linking
the various sectors of the organization (in this case a school) and establishing a communication path between them. How this information gets from the source to the destination is determined by
various factors, the most important one being the routing protocols.
The main focus in this project is on the different protocols which are responsible for information
transmission; Routing Information Protocol, Open Shortest-Path First, Enhanced Interior Gateway
Routing Protocol. It differentiates between the selected protocols and looks to experimentally
analyze them using some attributes (throughput, jitter, packet-loss, packet-length) in order to
determine which is more efficient and consequently can serve as the best protocol for transmitting
information between the local networks of a school.
