ABSTRACT
The study analyzes the orthographic errors that secondary school students encounter when studying Edo language in school, the study is limited to the secondary schools in Ikpoba Okha, Egor and Oredo local government areas. The study used the sampling technique of data collection, it requires systematic
collection of data sample of the ‘population’ through the use of personal interview, the study adopts both the qualitative and quantitative methods for data analysis.
Statistics and controlled measurements were used to gather the data in numerical form. The study adopts the the Selinker’s (1972) Inter language theory and Gass and Selinker’s (1994) model for error analysis. The above frameworks were adopted to
discuss the various errors that are encountered in the research. The research presented its findings, the sources of errors and suggested remediation. The problems found were: lack of well trained teachers, lack of interest in the language by both teachers and students, among others while the prospects found were: a better understanding of the language, the preservation and vitalization of the language among others.
