ABSTRACT
The goal of the Partial Replacement of Reinforcement by Bamboo project is to design and build a structure that uses bamboo as a structural alternative to steel in order to reproduce the shear strength and load bearing capabilities of traditional rebar in concrete structures while lowering costs.
Studies on the use of natural substitutes for steel as reinforcements in concrete. In, bamboo under this investigation was substituted for his 500 x 100 x 100 digits of steel. Its flexural strength was tested after a period of 7 ,14 and 28days. The constructed beams were constructed using sand as the fine aggregate and 15 mm size gravel as the coarse aggregate in 1:2:4 mix ratio.
A total of 27 beam samples were tested,9 of which used bamboo cut size of 15mm x 450mm as stiffeners and9used steel diameter and length of 450mm as stiffeners.
The remaining9beam specimens were plain concrete of these samples were used for analytical purposes.bending tests were performed on all beam samples cast after 7 ,14 and 28days . A comparison was made for bamboo reinforced, steel reinforced and plain concrete beams to determine the bending strength when used as a structural element.
The findings show that a bamboo-reinforced beam has compressive strength that is comparable to steel and can be used to construct modest dwellings.
