ABSTRACT
The allocation of health resources, play a pivotal role in the society and have been a contentious issue with ethical and societal concerns. Through a hermeneutical investigation, this work uses the lens of utilitarianism to wrestle with the ethical issues of resource allocation. The objective of this study is to examine the problem of resource allocation in healthcare. Through a thorough examination of real life cases, economic considerations and ethical dilemmas, this work argues that utilitarianism could proffer an alternative solution to the various ethical issues raised. In a nutshell, this essay projects the utilitarian perspective as a means of achieving efficient allocation of resources in healthcare as they are scarce by nature.
